Do you believe there is a temple for rats? Yes, There is a temple for Rats in Deshnok about 30 km from the Bikaner town of Rajasthan, where over 2000 Rats have taken shelter.
Temple for rats:
Milk, laddoos, and pulses are kept in large bowls, which Rats come over and eat/drink them. Devotees will receive Prasada which is eaten by the rats.
So why worship mice here?
The women born from the cast of Karani Mata Charan is a Sadhvi who is believed to have lived for about 151 years, and she is also the home goddess of the Jodhpur and Bikaner dynasties. According to local mythology, it is said that she married Kipoji Charan, who had never lived a happy life, allow his sister and married her husband and she spent the rest of her life on meditation.
It is said that his stepson, Lakshman, slipped and fell on the river when he went to Bikaner Lake to drink water.
It is believed that she wept and asked Yama to bring him alive. Yama gives rebirth to his son in the form of Rat. It is believed the descendants of Karni mata are believed to be born as mice and again as a human. Therefore people in that region worship rats.
According to another local tale, twenty thousand men of warriors flee to Deshnok and Karani Mata is said to have made them as rats to protect them from death, as they had taken shelter. There is a belief that white mice are Karani mata and her four children.
